Having worked for more than a decade as Random Retail, producing and selling screenprinted textiles,
I felt I wanted a fresh page.
Going back to basics is a valuable exercise for designers and I decided to do just that.

Experimenting with simple shapes allowed me to mine their rich potential for pattern and instead of working past the basics, I stayed with them and it's been a very rewarding process.

Random Retail has become Joy Jolliffe Prints and at present I'm creating designs with just lino cut printing.

It's a slow and engrossing process.
The inks are mixed continuously as the printing progresses and the cushion pieces are printed one by one.
Printing pressure is applied by hand, creating an uneven take-up of ink to produce a deliberately animated, hand worked finish.
